I want to build a community for my business; Shall I start a Facebook Page or a Facebook Group?

I see this question come upon so many social media threads that I simply have to address it.

A Facebook page is for your business to send news out. The best comparison to how to best use the Facebook page is to treat it like your email newsletter.

However, when you run Paid Ads on Facebook, this same page will be your “sender”. So, therefore, you can’t ignore it “because you don’t have time”.

Ignoring a Facebook page and running ads simply means that the ads don’t work very well. People like to check you out before spending money with you.

A Facebook Group on the other hand is a place you can’t “like” but you need to be a member of. People sometimes are confused because these groups can be public , which means no one has to approve new members to get access.

So what is a Facebook Group good for?

Essentially I treat a Facebook Group like you would see your Slack chat with your team, but simply this can be with your customers!

It’s a good way to “provide value” and create a true connection. This can turn it into your broadcast channel for your agenda or you can run webinars on it where people buy from you.

You can provide solutions when people ask questions that you can benefit from financially.

I have personally built a group without running ads from 0–1800 members in 10 months.
